What is your destination?

We are all living on a journey of life. How we live the journey will determine not only our final destination, but the joy we experience, and lessons we learn along the way. To reach our preferred destination we must:

1. Recognize where we want our destination to be. - There are a lot of different routes to go to the same destination, but too many never decide on a destination and therefore spend their days being thrown from path to path going forward, backwards and in circles. We need to have the knowledge of our destination and make frequent corrections to keep our focus on our destination. Search our hearts to determine what we really desire and how we rank our most important desires.

2. Find out what you really desire and what your life mission is. How do we know what we really desire? How do we know what our life mission is? These questions plagued me for a long time, until one day, I attended the best classroom in the world, at the feet of an elderly person. Here I learned that the saddest words in the world are "if only" and that if you could stand at the end of your life, say at your funeral, and look back over your life in reverse, you would achieve the hindsight 20/20 view of your life. As you are standing there at your funeral what would you want your eulogy to be. What things would you want your loved ones to know that you valued, or achieved. What would you want your children or grandchildren think of you, or to remember about you?

3. The best way to send a message about what you really desire is to look at your actions. It is not what we say that speaks the loudest, rather it is what we put into action. Desires dictate our priorities, priorities shape our choices, and choices determine our actions. If your actions are not truly reflecting your values and priorities then you need to ask whose life mission you are working on accomplishing? The desires we act on determine our changing, our achieving, and who we become.

4. We must focus on our priorities to achieve our life mission.

This is a 3 part process.

1. Visualize our life mission.
2. Recognize that we are in control of our achievement or failure of that mission.

We are - not our parents, neighbors, best friends or worst enemies.

A. Recognize our energy gainers and drainers or wasters. Increase our energy gainers and eliminate the energy drainers or wasters.

B. Know that we will reap what we sow. If we sow pears, we will reap pears. If we sow negative thoughts we will reap negative results. If we sow positive thoughts we will harvest successes.

C. Realize that the best way to overcome success killers is to move forward continually. If you find you have gotten off track, adjust and move on. Ideas and plans in motion are extremely hard to stop.

D. Don't commit intellectual suicide. The most important conversation that you will have today is the one that goes on in between your ears.

3. Continually make corrections to keep moving forward towards your destination. Just as an airplane on autopilot has to continually make corrections to get to their destinations, so must we.

It is a fact that if we are not working on our goals and our destinations we are working on someone else's. Whose life mission are you working on?
